Good morning! Happy Monday. We will have a few extra clouds today, but overall, not too bad with temperatures in the middle to upper 60s, which is seasonable for this time of the year. Any rain should stay away until tomorrow.

Have a great start to the week! 🙂

I hope you were able to enjoy that beautiful sunshine & blue sky today! Took a bit to get those clouds out of there, but after midday, that blue sky came out to play!

As we move into the upcoming work & school week, another "cut-off" low sits over the region. This will give us several days of chilly weather, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 40s. Expect rain showers, especially Tuesday & Wednesday. Not exactly bright warm days, that's for sure.

These cut-off lows are exactly as they sound... the low pressure is "cut off" from the jet stream/upper-level winds, so they kind of sit for a few days. We slowly break out of this pattern by the weekend.

Looking for something to do today? Clouds breaking apart now, sun is on the way! Head on down to Round Barn Winery & Estate! Jammin' in the vineyard features Dylan Raymond's live music today... along with quite a bit of blue sky and sunshine!

FYI - temperatures will likely be in the 50s to near 60° most of the day due to the proximity of Lake Michigan. Blue sky and sun will be the theme, especially this afternoon

Good morning & happy Sunday! It'll be a bit cooler than average today with most of us in the lower 60. Folks within 20ish miles from Lake Michigan, you may be stuck in the 50s today. Any morning clouds will give way to sun & blue sky later on. Have a great one!! 🙂 ... See MoreSee Less

A picture perfect day is in the forecast for Sunday, but beyond this, it does look quite chilly and gloomy as we kick off the new week. Temperatures will be WELL below average for mid-May with highs stuck in the 50s (even 40s for areas near Lake MI). Not exactly beach weather... yet. ... See MoreSee Less

Better late than never, I suppose! A whole lot more of that blue sky & sunshine for our Sunday. Soak it up, it looks pretty gloomy and chilly this upcoming week.

I will have an update with my latest forecast in a couple of hours. For now, I am going to put the phone down and enjoy the sun. You should do the same! 🙂

DOWNRIGHT CHILLY: While the calendar says late spring, it will feel more like early spring (at best!!) for parts of next week. HABOOB! Ok... I am in my late 30s now, but as a teenager/20s in college, learning about "haboobs" in school were always funny to me... because I was childish and needed to grow up! 😀

A haboob is a giant wall of dust/sand, which is caused by gusty winds lifting up dry soil/dirt/sand. The term "haboob" is derived from the Arabic word "habūb," meaning "blasting" or "drifting." Lots of desert in the middle east!

While the term "haboob" is typically reserved for dust storms in arid regions, the mechanisms behind the local event yesterday are similar. In Northern/Central IL & IN, the farm fields are really dry, and most have been recently tilled by farmers. With barely any recent rain, loose soil was sitting on the surface like powder. Strong outflow winds (60–70 mph!) from the severe storms that hit just south of our region picked up that loose soil and blew it our way. The result... a wall of sand/dust!

Anyone locally from areas of the desert southwest (Phoenix, Vegas, etce tc) can tell you exactly what was happening. Those of us from the Midwest... it was quite eerie! Not something we see often...

Hey, everyone! Admittedly, with the severe tstorms yesterday, the past 2-3 days have been focused on fine-tuning those details. Today, I spent quite a bit more time on the extended forecast. I made significant changes. Another “cut-off” low is going to give us consistent, chilly days ahead.

Regarding Saturday, AM clouds will be tough to break through, but we will get some sun later in the day. Sunday remains sunny - looks pleasant, but cooler than average.

Downright chilly air moves into the Great Lakes next week. At best, highs will be in the 50s (possibly 40s…!), and on & off showers will be likely for most days.

This pattern is unlikely to hold, but do plan on some VERY early spring-like conditions next week… unfortunately.
