SATURDAY PM UPDATE: Here comes that much-advertised 1-3" of snow for overnight/Sunday morning. Nothing major at all, but do expect a fresh coating of snow tomorrow morning. This ends around midday Sunday. Give yourself a little extra time to breakfast, church etc.

COLD WILL NOT LET UP: We all know it's going to be cold this week... but next weekend looks even worse. Old man winter woke up in November and clearly is cranky with the Midwest!!
Joking aside, with snow on the ground, sub-zero temperatures are likely one week from now, with wind chills at or below -15°. I suspect we'll get some lake effect snow out of this as well... but way too far out to get specific about that. Temperatures, on the other hand, much easier to "see" this far out.

Absolutely GORGEOUS with the snow on the ground. It’ll be cold, but nothing some of that apple cider or hot cocoa (with lots of marshmallows) won’t fix. Plus… several fires around the campus.

FROST QUAKES: I had about 15 messages about "loud bangs" last night/this morning, so I thought I'd explain what is happening! SCIENCE IS FUN!
Frost quakes, also known as cryoseisms, occur when rapidly dropping temps cause moisture in the ground to freeze and expand. That trapped water can turn to ice in just a few hours, especially when we are at record breaking temperatures like we were this AM! Because water expands as it freezes, pressure builds beneath the surface until the frozen ground suddenly cracks. That quick release of energy can create a loud boom!
We'll likely have more of those as we roll through winter. The sudden blast of cold air
