I literally want IU to win this because of Mendonza's amazing mom. I love how ESPN keeps showing his family's raw emotion.

This Boilermaker is cheering you guys on!!

ANOTHER COLD MORNING: Many schools have already delayed for Tuesday due to these cold temperatures. Wind dies down a bit, but that will allow the actual air temperature to fall to around 0° overnight. The lake effect snow north of US-6 has kept road conditions pretty poor, too.

We moderate mid-week before these values (and worse) return for the upcoming weekend.

Thanks to MC Doors for powering the update! If your garage door has any issues as this cold weather settles in, trust the local guys at MC Doors!!

Hi, everyone! Here is my most recent forecast, as of Monday PM. Some additional snow the next two days. Nothing major... 2-4", isolated 4"+, mainly in SW MI and Northern IN north of US-6. Otherwise, the theme here is COLD.

In fact, as we approach this upcoming weekend, the season's coldest air arrives. I still think daytime highs on Friday and Saturday will be stuck in the single digits, with overnight lows (especially away from Lake MI) easily sub-zero. Factor in a breeze, and you can get wind chill values at or below -25°... easily.

There is a chance of snow this weekend ahead of the big system that will impact the Ohio Valley (see my previous post). For now, keeping it out of the forecast as I believe most of us won't be impacted. If that big storm system moves farther north, it will bring warmer air to our region. TBD if that will happen. For now, I'm thinking the cold will win out.

Stay tuned for updates, though.

COLD, COLD, COLD!

NORTHERN LIGHTS: A very strong solar storm is impacting our planet right now. Clouds are going to be extremely stubborn locally, but if you look outside late this evening/overnight, there is a very good chance of some pretty vibrant auroras! Give it a shot! Later is best. ... See MoreSee Less

WATCHING THIS WEEKEND: I know the internet is blowing up about storm possibilities this weekend (we have snow & cold this week, too!), so let's dive in and focus JUST on this upcoming weekend.

There are a two primary outcomes for this weekend. Locally here in our area:
Outcome #1: Some possible snow, especially southern parts of Michiana. This would "push" bitter severe cold farther north, but would cause travel impacts with system snow.
Outcome #2: Little to no precip, but the cold air from Canada is locked into our area. This would be AM temps around -10°, wind chills near -30°.

At the moment, I think the system stays primarily south. There are some northerly trends in data (aka a stronger, more phased system). However... as of this post on Monday afternoon, I suspect the bulk of travel impacts will be south of us, and the cold air will be locked in. If you are traveling anywhere south, 100% guarantee of snow & ice impact Saturday & Sunday. Indy, Louisville, Nashville, Atlanta, etc etc.

Updates to come on this page and the Matt Rudkin WX App. For now... stay tuned! It's too far out to lock in a single solution, so just be patient. 🙂

Still some lake effect snow for my Michigan friends. With an almost due west wind, this is keeping it mainly north of US-20. 9a EST: Lake effect snow coming down at a good clip, mainly north of the state line. It’s pretty windy, and with how cold it is, the snow is very light/fluffy. It will blow around all over the place, making clearing roads (especillay N/S) difficult until the wind dies down later today. ... See MoreSee Less
